Maximal oxygen uptake
VO2 max, or maximal oxygen uptake, is a measure of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can use during intense exercise. It is typically expressed in milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute (ml/kg/min).
VO2 max is an indicator of a person's cardiorespiratory fitness and aerobic endurance. It is determined by a combination of factors, including genetics, training, and physiological adaptations to exercise.
VO2 max is often used as a metric in sports and fitness training, as well as in research studies on exercise physiology. Higher VO2 max values are generally associated with better performance in endurance activities, such as distance running, cycling, and swimming.
