①self：自己，center：居中， self-centered：以自我为中心的

self作前缀，后跟动词的过去分词形式， 表示：自我......的

self-blinded：自欺欺人的

self-invited：不请自来的

②would rather be... than...

情愿做......也不愿成为......

would rather do than do，

意为：宁愿做......也不做......

than的前后部分结构需保持一致。

I'd rather learn English than French.

我情愿学英语也不要学法语。

③叠音：

前一个单词的词尾有个辅音，

后一个单词以相同的辅音开头，

把这个辅音叠成一个。

⑤haste[heɪst] n. 匆忙，草率

他举起手来作证。

⑦suffuse[səˈfjuːz] v. 充满，弥漫

Watching this mess, her eyes are suffused with tears.

⑧affluent['æfluənt] adj. 富裕的，丰富的

The affluent lady wears a lot of jewellery.

⑩set off  是一个固定搭配。有“出发”，“动身”的意思，

后面常接“for”、“to”等介词+地点，表示“出发去某处”的意思。

Mr. Fish sets off to the hospital because he is seriously ill.

鱼sir出发去医院，因为他病得很厉害了。
